BIGZ Library launched a book display on “Scary Stories” this week as a curtain-raiser to Halloween. The librarians have selected 49 fantastic books to chill the blood of teachers and students. 

本周，图书馆推出了“恐怖故事” 主题书展，打响了年度盛宴——万圣节预热的第一枪。图书馆老师们精心挑选出了49本令人不寒而栗的好书，供学校师生一“抖”为快。

If you are a big fan of Alan Wake, you must adore Stephen King who inspired this famous game. Our library specially introduced a collection of Stephen King’s works, including If It Bleeds, The Institute, The Outsider, Shining and The Green Mile. The Silent Patient, which has been on the New York Times Bestseller list for long, is an unmissable book, too!

如果你也是近期的热门游戏《心灵杀手》的粉丝，你便会知道该游戏最大的灵感来源就是恐怖小说家斯蒂芬 · 金。本次图书馆特别展出了斯蒂芬 · 金的系列作品，包括《如果见红》、《异能研究所》、《局外人》、《闪灵》、《绿里》等。除此之外，长期霸占《纽约时报》畅销榜的《沉默的病人》也绝对不容错过！ 

The book display was well decorated with funny pumpkin faces and evil ghost eyes. The Dracula-inspired posters and bulletin board attracted huge attention from teachers and students. The librarians were glad to see a lot of readers sharing their scary books on the bulletin board, even including the newly-arrived Progress Reports and the “horrifying” textbook — Algebra 2 :) !

除了精选好书，本次的书展布置也是让读者们眼前一亮。几颗大号南瓜一齐在书展上落座，或挤眉弄眼，或眼神空洞，或笑容怪诞，与城堡风格的桌旗和桌上的鬼怪立牌相映成趣，惹得大小读者们纷纷驻足。以吸血鬼德古拉为原型的海报和以暗夜为背景的荐书榜也为整个书展添光加彩。在阅读之余，读者们还会信手在荐书榜上分享自己喜欢的恐怖作品。其中甚至不乏有今天发到学生手上的中期进步报告和人人都不陌生的《代数2》，孩子们的“恐怖”推荐令图书馆老师不禁捧腹。

Find Your Halloween Book!

寻找属于你的万圣节绘本！

To help our young students get in the Halloween spirit, BIGZ Library presented them with a collection of Halloween picture books in both Chinese and English. From “Brave Kids Must Have a Way to Deal with Witches”, “Hotel Transylvania Series” to “Grandpa Becomes a Ghost”, attractive stories and vivid illustrations have encouraged students to be brave and let them believe that ghosts, witches and vampires can also be funny!

为了让孩子们提前感受万圣节的节日气氛，图书馆推出了一系列万圣节相关的中英文儿童绘本。从妙趣横生的《勇敢的小孩一定有办法对付女巫》，到热闹欢乐的《精灵旅社》，再到温暖治愈的《爷爷变成了幽灵》，时而幽默，时而温馨。天马行空的故事和生动有趣的插图让幽灵、女巫和吸血鬼不再只存在于吓哭小孩的黑暗童话之中，而是让孩子们意识到，原来小孩也可以很勇敢，鬼怪也可以很可爱！

万圣节趣味阅读游戏

How could we have a Halloween without games! BIGZ Library prepared a fun reading game for G1-G3 students based on the ideas from Ms. Ashley Ely, our Humanities teacher at the third grade. Students wandered around the bookshelves decorated with pumpkin faces, skeletons and toy spiders, hunting the Halloween-themed books hidden by the librarians. They found the answers in the books based on the clues. 

图书馆的万圣节预热当然也少不了有趣的游戏！图书馆老师们为一到三年级的孩子们精心策划了万圣节趣味阅读游戏，同时也邀请了3年级人文课老师Ms. Ashley Ely为完善游戏设置提供教学建议。孩子们热情高涨地穿梭在用南瓜、骷髅和蜘蛛装点的书架之间，在图书馆的各个角落里寻找图书馆老师悄悄藏起来的万圣节主题图书，并根据题目提供的图片线索在书里寻找答案。

To get the correct answers, students paired up with their peers and matched the clues with the illustrations in the books. They carefully read the clues and found the answers with their partners. Students had great fun during the game, which not only helped them learn the vocabulary and background of Halloween, but also enhanced their power of observation, ability of thinking and skills of collaboration. 

在寻找答案的过程中，孩子们需要两两结对，仔细观察书中的插图是否与线索匹配，进行句子阅读或片段阅读，和小伙伴一起协作回答问题。这让孩子们在享受游戏乐趣的同时，既学习了万圣节的相关词汇和背景知识，也锻炼了观察、思考和协作能力。

The librarians prepared gifts for the winners, such as Halloween bracelets, masks and stickers. "That is so much fun, I love Halloween!" A third grader happily put on a Halloween mask and said. Children shared their joy with their teachers and classmates by showing the Halloween gifts. The reading game will also be held next week as strongly requested by our teachers and students. 游戏结束后，图书馆老师们为优胜的队伍分发了万圣节手环、面具和贴纸等丰富的奖品。”这个游戏太有意思了！我喜欢万圣节！”一名三年级学生开心地戴上了万圣节面具。孩子们兴致勃勃地向老师和同学展示自己获得的万圣节礼物，与大家一起分享节日喜悦。在老师和孩子们的强烈要求下，万圣节趣味阅读游戏将延长一周。祝每个孩子都能畅享悦读！
